But what are we talking about?
It’s a Google Review Plate embedded with an NFC chip and a QR Code and configured to take customers who scan it straight to the Review page of the company on Google My Business (GMB).

Why Is This Important?
Take a step back for a minute. Before you book a holiday you probably go on TripAdvisor and check out the reviews of the hotel and, just as important, responses from the hotel to both positive and negative reviews. Why? Well they provide valuable insights and feedback from previous guests to help you make a decision. It’s called ‘Social Proof’.
So Why Is Social Proof Important And How Can It Impact Your Business?
The same principle applies to your business. It’s all about ‘Social Proof’. The more social proof you can provide about the validity of your business, the more Google likes you, the higher up in the search rankings you’ll appear. There’s a bit more to it than that, but it’s a primary starting point.
If you’ve seen my previous videos you will know that Google’s data shows 43% of people looking for a local service will chose one from the ‘3 Pack’, these are the 3 businesses listed in Place/Map section at the top of the search page, a further 8% will select ‘more places’ and look at the other businesses listed. In other words, more than half of the people looking for a local service will choose from Places/Map section.

So Ask Yourself This Question, ‘Why Do People Use Google?’
It’s because people trust the information Google provides in its search results. But Google also needs to verify and trust the information it serves. So how does Google decide on which business to rank and in which position?
If a business has a website then SEO and relevant information about the service the business provides is important. But for the local listings in the Places/Map section, Social Proof is the major ranking factor.
In other words, Google relies on reviews from customers to help it make the decision on which businesses to list and in which position.
I did say there’s a bit more to it than that. What I mean is that it is just as important for the business owner to respond to the reviews. This shows Google that the business cares about its customers and another important consideration it takes into account. For example, let’s say a customer leaves a negative review, provided that the business responds (showing that they provide good customer service), then the fact that a business has responded is more important in Google’s eyes than the negative review.
What Star Rating Should A Business Be Looking For?
Everyone wants 5 Star reviews but in the real World you will always get some negative ones. It’s how you address those being the key component. If a business averages 4.2 stars or above, then general consensus is that the business can be trusted. If it’s less than that you have to work on managing your brand.
Brand Management
Every business is a unique Brand in its own right. Whether you are a plumber, electrician, dentist, school, restaurant, gym and so on, your business and the services you provide are ‘The Brand’.
It is important that you manage your Brand and collecting regular reviews, and responding to them, is great start to showing customers and clients that you care. As your brand reputation increases this has the potential to increase your client base and number of customers.
All you need to do is say ‘Please would you mind leaving a Review?’ then ask them to scan the Google Review Plate QR Code (or business card size equivalent if you have provided a service in someone’s home), and they’ll be taken straight to the Review section at your Google Business Listing.
